This book follows the life of a battler, starting with his childhood in Boulder, his service in the Middle East and New Guinea during World War II, and his later years working in the developing North West of Australia. He raised a family in the Pilbara and the Goldfields before retiring in Batchelor, Northern Territory.
Roma Wood, the author, was born in Port Hedland and has Chinese, Javanese, and Aboriginal heritage. She met and married Ted Wood, who was a returned soldier. Roma now lives in Darwin and volunteers with Legacy and disability welfare groups.
